Grand Prix Disgrace

On Sunday, April 22, Bahrain’s Grand Prix went on as scheduled. This year’s grand prize is disgrace, not glory. Formula 1′s governing board shamed itself by not pulling out. So did participating drivers. Agreeing to race in a virtual war zone shows nothing matters but winning and money – lots of it. Going along turns a blind eye to state terror.

Nuclear Chess

On April 14, two days of nuclear chess began in Istanbul. At issue is Iran’s civilian program. So-called P5+1 countries – America, Russia, China, Britain, and France – plus Germany – know it’s peaceful. They pretend otherwise. Expect toing and froing without resolution. Washington plans it that way. So do Britain, France and Germany. They’re part of the dirty game claiming Iran has nuclear weapons ambitions.

Delusional Milestone — An Analysis

Pastor John Hagee’s Christians United For Israel (CUFI) announced the “registration of their millionth member” on 18 March 2012. This organization, founded in 2006, with the goal of “realizing the political potential of tens of millions of evangelical Americans who support Israel” can also be said to have the goal of destroying, in the name of God no less, the legitimate political aspiration of Palestinian statehood. And, the CUFI now has as much influence with our Republican Congress as does the Jewish Zionist lobby, AIPAC.

Bahrain — A Case Study in Despotism

In summer 2010, sporadic protests began. By mid-February last year, major ones erupted. From then to now, they challenged repressive rule nonviolently. They continue daily. At issue is King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa’s regime. Bahrainis want democratic change, sectarian Shia discrimination ended, equitable distribution of state wealth, political prisoners released, and terrorizing stopped. They also want popularly elected leaders replacing Al-Khalifa rule. It’s despotic, ruthless and intolerable.
